Bottled Water Treatment Plant

Also known as drinking water, bottled water is used world wide. European and North American countries are major consumers. This trend however is slowly spreading through out the world rapidly. Water is collected on the source packed and sealed. Depending on the place of origin, water bottles are of following types:

Spring Water
It flows out naturally from earths surface through small borehole.

Purified Drinking Water
It is water from which chemicals like chlorine and magnesium is removed.

Water from Naturally Sparkling Source
It is carbonated water that comes out from natural springs or artesian well.

Mineral Water
This type of water occur from the natural springs and consists of minerals like; sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium, silica and bicarbonates.

Water Treatment Process
However before bottling it is must that water is purified and is cleared from all sorts of germs and microorganism. Hence, before bottling water undergoes various types of treating process. The process that are followed for water treatment are:
  • Filtration
  • Reverse Osmosis
  • Deionization
  • Ultraviolet Treatment
  • Distillation
  • Ozonation
Water after being collected from the source is filtered to separate permeate from the concentration. Plainly speaking suspended solid is removed from the water. Suspended solids are of different sizes and no single filtration system is capable of removing contaminants of all sizes. Hence, water is filterd through series of filtration system like microfiltration, ultrafiltration Nanofiltration and reverse osmosis.

In spring water especially there are lot of minerals present. These minerals can be removed from the water through deionization that is carried out in the presence resin beds.

Once water is filtered, it is treated with disinfectant like chlorine and ozone. Ozonation and Chlorination helps in destroying the harmful microorganism.
