Ozone Generator

Ozone is a tri-oxygen molecules that acts as powerful disinfecting and deodorizing gas. Due to its strong oxidizing nature ozone is used in various water treatment processes. For industrial applications, ozone generator is used for producing ozone. For disinfecting water chlorine is also used but as it produces harmful by-products known as THMs hence now trend is now shifting towards ozone treatment of water.

Ozone Generator

Ozone generators consist of effective and powerful injectors, static mixers, reaction and filter vessel. These generators are made of qualitative materials and plays vital role in air and water treatment. They are fabricated in such a manner that the odors and the pollutants are broken at the source.

How Ozone Molecules are generated?

How Ozone Molecules are generated

Corona Discharge
Corona discharge tube is used for generating ozone molecules. These types of ozone generators are very cost effective and utilizes only ambient air for ozone production.

Ultraviolet light
In this types of generators ultraviolet light source is used for producing ozone molecules. Though these generator s are cost effective yet their ozone production is 2% lower.

Cold plasma
In this type of generators, cold plasma machines utilizes pure oxygen as the input source for producing high concentration of 5% ozone.

Working of Ozone Generators
When compressed air is forced into the ozone chamber it results in the creation of ozone. The chamber of ozone generator consist of ultraviolet (UV) light. The ozone so created is transferred to the diffuser which creates ozone-saturated bubbles. Ozone is mixed with the water using stirrer and later fed into the water purification tank. The weak oxygen of the ozone molecule combines with the organic product of the water and oxidizes them thereby creating fresh, clear, and healthy water.

Features
Some of the important features of the ozone generators are:
  • Ozone generators are designed to give highest operational safety.
  • Reliable and have long span of life.
  • Most of the ozone generators are designed in such a way that they can be accommodated in one enclosure.
  • The critical components can be accessed easily.
  • Easy to operate, install and maintain Ï Space required for their installation is less.
  • Automatic PLC system.
Advantages of Ozone Generator
Municipal water companies worldwide choose ozone generators for disinfecting water because it has following advantages:
  • It very effective against coliform bacteria and destroys them much faster than chlorine or bromine.

  • PH can be neutralized by them very easily.

  • Helps in the destruction of fungus, mold and yeast spores.

  • All heavy metals are precipitated by them easily

  • It is capable of conditioning the water naturally without the addition of any chemicals. Water conditioning is achieve by removing excess iron, manganese, and sulfur.

  • Water color an odor is effectively removed by ozone generator.

  • There is no scale build up on pipes and water heaters thereby reducing the instances of stains on showers, sinks, bathtubs and toilets.

  • There is no residue left by it as its byproduct is pure oxygen.

Fact Bites
  • In municipal water treatment system, after ozonation, chlorine is also added as there is possibility of the water picking up bacteria in the lengthy distribution piping.

  • Small multi-house systems and single family dwellings do not require a chlorine residual.

  • Ozone generators also increases the pH in case water is acidic.

  • Maintenance of the system depends on the size of the tank, and the amount of water that one used

  • Filter should be hosed of and the ozone diffuser should be cleaned regularly. UV lamp should be replaced every 14 months for maximum water quality

  • Ozone is incapable of removing nitrates, sodium, sulfates, total dissolved solids, chlorides, and fluoride. For removing these contaminants, reverse osmosis or distillation is used.
