The packaged wastewater treatment system utilizes effectively the biological extended aeration principle. The process involves bio-oxidation of the wastes. Bio-oxidation is made possible by creating an environment with sufficient oxygen levels.
The organic domestic wastewater can be easily consumed by the microorganism because these organic matter in domestic wastewater are bio degradable. Microorganism used these organic waste as their food. Hence biological treatment method is used for removing the contaminates in wastewater.
Multi step procedure is adopted by the package wastewater treatment system in order to treat the wastewater. The treatment steps that are adopted are :
- Comminution
- Screening
- Diffused aeration
- Clarification
- Sludge recirculation
- Sludge digestion
- Disinfection
- Filtration.
How the Plant Operates?
In the first step solid is removed. The solids are removed by moving the wastewater through a comminutor or bar screen. Thus solid is reduced and now the wastewater is ready for aeration that takes place in the aeration chamber. In this chamber the flow that is still untreated is mixed with an active biomass. The mixing takes place in the rolling action. Air that originate from the diffuser, is the cause of this rolling mixing action. This leads to the efficient mixing. The oxygen is transferred with the diffused air which allows microorganisms to oxidize the wastes into carbon dioxide, water, and a stable sludge.
After aeration the wastewater flows to the clarifiers where the solids solids settle on the bottom of the clarifier. These solids are removed as an activated sludge by means of airlift pumps in the aeration chamber. The sludge again goes under biological process in this chamber. If required excess sludge is dumped into an aerated sludge digestion tank for further treatment and reduction. The solid that is floating is lifted to the aeration chamber for further processing. From clarifiers the treated water finally enters the disinfectant chamber where microorganism are destroyed using oxidants.
