Swimming Pool Water Treating Process

Swimming pools are meant for refreshing. There are many kinds of swimming pools with different systems and mechanism. However swimming pool gets contaminated due to the presence of microorganisms, dissolved and undissolved pollutants that may cause disease. Hence, it is necessary to clean them using various processes.

Methods for Cleaning Pool Water
There are various methods for treating pool water which are as follows:

Filtration
FiltrationFiltration is done at the beginning of actual cleaning starts. Water is filter by using screens which remove solid particles from the water. The screens come in different shapes and sizes. The nature of the pollutant and its shape decide the shape of the screen.

Sand filtration is another method for filtration. Filter is made of different layers of sand that varies in size. However, often many particles escape filtration in this method. In that case secondary filtration is required.

There is another method of filtration that uses semipermeable membrane for filtering salts and some dissolved matter. Membrane filtration can be done by using following methods:

Microfiltration
Microfiltration is used for filtering solids of very small size that range from 0.1 to 1.5 microns. All the suspended matter and some microorganism can be removed by it easily.

Ultra filtration
The particles that escape filtration from micro filtration are effectively removed by ultra filtration process. Particles whose size range from 0.005 to 0.1 microns can be removed using this method. Apart from suspended solids salts and protein can be easily filtered out by ultra filtration.

Nanofiltration
Particles of size 0.0001 to 0.005 microns are removed by this method. This method is also effective in filtering out viruses, herbicides and pesticides from the water.

Reverse Osmosis
This is most effective means of filtration that uses semipermeable membrane. Metal ions and dissolved salts can be effectively remove by this method.

Chemical Methods

Addition of Chemicals
In chemical method addition of chemicals like chlorine and ozone effectively the microorganism like bacteria and viruses.

Clarification
Suspended solid is removed by this method using number of techniques. Through coagulation causes smaller particles to stick together to create bigger ones which are then removed by using gravity filter. However further treatment is necessary as all suspended solids are not removed by this method.

Deionization
Water is deionized by this method. Resin bed is used for this purpose. In this process cations and anions are removed to deionize the water. The hardness of the water is removed by water softener that removes calcium and magnesium ions from the water and replace them by the set of positive ion.

Disinfection
Disinfection is an important process in treating the water. They are used for killing microorganism. Water cab disinfected by using chemicals like chlorine, ozone or through ultra violet U.V radiation.

Biological Method
In biological treatment method microorganisms such as bacteria are used for decomposition of organic suspended matter. Anaerobic or Aerobic bacteria are used for treating pool water.
