Through pressure filtration, dry filter cake is produced from suspended solids or contaminants. While producing dry cake the mechanism also produces liquid filtrate with a high degree of clarity. There are different types of press or pressure filters like:

Pressure Filter
In a tube filter, filtrate flows up through the tube into the head and out whereas the filter cake is formed on the outside of the tube. Cleaning of the tube is accomplished by backwashing with the help of hydraulic "pump".
It is the top of the plate that filtration takes place. In this filter, rotating sluice is used to discharge the cake.
Vertical Pressure Filter
In an enclosed vessel, vertical pressure filter provides a granular media treatment to the water. The vertical pressure filter not only eliminates backwash supply pumps but also helps in maintaining system pressure through the treatment process. For water treatment it uses different types of media configurations. The common applications include: removal of heavy metals like iron, manganese and arsenic from ground water and processing of industrial water.
