Biological Treatment In the wastewater treatment
process, the unwanted organic impurities are removed through biological
treatment either in aerobic or anaerobic modes. We are going to discuss
the aerobic systems in this section. We can provide oxygen supply in
water through supply of air into wastewater. The oxygen solubility in
water is limited so the driving force is small and this demands
improvment in the conditions for mass transfer at the interface of
wastewater and air. It can be achieved either by optimizing the
operating conditions of the biological reactor at various dissolved
oxygen levels or it can be done by maximizing the air & wastewater
interface area. It is done by deploying different aeration devices
suited best for a particular process requirement. We provide different options for the biological reactors which can be based on suspended growth or attached growth. We offer a comprehensive range of reactors in the suspended growth option for achieving the objectives of conventional activated sludge process or its process modifications. It includes those where sludge recycling may not be required like in Aerated lagoons. These systems can be provided with or without nutrient removal considerations. We can provide both systems in the attached growth option i.e. with moving bed like RBC or fixed bed like Bio-Filter. Types of Products ¤ Mechanical Surface Aerator Mechanical surface aerators helps the dissolution
of air into wastewater by stirring up the water in its contact.
According to the speed of rotation of the impeller they are classified
into two categories : Low-speed mechanical surface aerators and
High-speed mechanical surface aerators. Our competency lies in low-speed
mechanical surface Aerators upto 100 HP size and above. We develop
surface aerators that ensure continuous trouble free operation with
minimum maintenance. The most important components of the surface aerator are Motor, gear box and impeller. These components come combined but for maintenance purpose these can be separated. The radial or axial impeller design facilitates the mixing of deeper tank without draft tube and it decreases shock loads transmitted to drive unit due to wave action. The components can be provided with adjunct components like mist deflectors to check mist on the bridge and basin baffles to prevent vortexing. Our product design permits adjustment of impeller submergence on a large range. The mechanical surface aerator units can be provided in stainless steel construction or carbon steel construction as per the cuatomer's requirement. They can be made available in fixed and floating aeration variations. In floating aeration, the device is supported on three floating pontoons which are interconnected through a steel frame forming floating platform around the aerator. ¤ Air Diffuser Our
company offers a large range of Air Diffusers for installation in the
Aeration tank and it includes Fine Bubble Diffusers and Coarse Bubble
Diffusers. The Fine Bubble Diffusers are designed for excellent process aeration efficiency. It is achieved through consistent production of fine bubbles through thousands of
uniform circular apertures in the flexible membrane which can either be
circular or tubular. Tubular designs are non-buoyant design. They allow
water to entirely fill the diffuser support tube. The higher transfer
efficiency ensures lower energy cost and improved effluent quality. The Coarse Bubble Diffuser is also provided in different variations, which can be easily attached to the main grid at the bottom of the Aeration tank. The wideband coarse bubble diffusers can be supplied in all stainless steel / PVC construction. ¤
Multiple Channel ReactorThe Multi Channel Reactor of US Filter design in ORBAL process is a unique concept for conventional activated sludge process. It also covers nutrient removal. These units can be provided with simultaneous process of nitrification and de-nitrification to decrease the overall oxygen requirement. They involve three concentric channels. Each of them operate at different dissolved oxygen levels. The key to the ORBAL system's efficiency is unique non-metallic ORBAL discs. They are mounted in numbers on a horizontal shaft supported on the tank walls. They are mounted in such a way that some portion of these discs remain submerged in water as they rotate during the operation. The speed provided by the rotating disc remains around one foot per second for the wastewater. Solids
remain under suspension by creating optimum mixing conditions at an
incredibly low 1 HP power consumption per 100,000 - 200,000 gallons. ORBAL is a magnificent concept for preventing clarifier solids wash out during high flows. It does so by redirecting the inflow to inner channel instead of the outer channel. To fulfill the process requirement, these units can be provided with single or double channels too. ¤ Bio Filter Our
bio filter mechanism can be provided upto 200' diameter and above to
meet different process requirement with plastic media or any other
conventional media in order to achieve high level of BOD removal and
that too at very low operating cost usually in the primary stage. Rotary
Distributor is the key to the performance of Bio-Filter, which is
installed at the centre of the circular Bio-Filter tank. They are
designed to deliver consistent performance by uniformly distributing the
wastewater over the media across the tank diameter. The simulated design
ensures that the distributor rotate with a very low hydraulic head of
the wastewater and thus extremely low power cost. The Rotary Distributor
is attached to two to four arms and each of these arms are fitted with
spreader nozzles. The nozzles are used to deflect and distribute the
wastewater on the media while the arm is rotating due to the hydraulic
head. ¤ Vertical Loop Reactor (VLR) The design of Vertical Loop Reactor is based on loop reactors in series that allow DO stratification. It is installed in a rectangular tank and the entire tank is divided in two compartments ( upper & lower ). It is done through a horizontal baffle that runs across the tank length almost at mid depth. The VLR combines ORBAL and diffused aeration to attain its proven level of efficiency. The VLR tank can be much deeper and thus reduced footprint. Below the baffle plate, the air diffusers are installed and thus it travel the entire length of the tank before being released after a minimum retention time. In this way it has higher mass transfer efficiency. In the VLR tank the mixing conditions are reached through the ORBAL disc. Details for it is available in the relevant ORBAL section. This unit can also be provided for nutrient removal as well with simultaneous nitrification and de-nitrification. It can also be used for biological phosphorous removal. The existing rectangular tank can be retrofitted to VLR design if they are meeting in minimum sizing requirements. ![]()
