For producing high purity water,
Triveni offers Continuous Electrodeionisation unit (CEDI) as a
continuous process. This process use ion exchange membranes, resin and
electricity. Direct current is used for removing ions from the feed
stream and it also continuously regenerates the ion exchange resins.
This process produces a consistent, predictable water quality. It
provides water with more than 99% TDS removal with feed water
conductivity of < 40 microsiemens / centimeter.

Ions present in the feed water migrate to the ion exchange resin that
fills the product compartments. These ions are transferred along the
resin and through the ion exchange membranes to the reject stream for
removal. Resin serves as a extremely conductive media, which helps the
ion to travel. The DC voltage splits the water into hydrogen and
hydroxyl ions. They continuously regenerates the ion exchange resin.
Since this process works continuously, the resins are continuously
produced and constant multi-megohm water quality can be produced.
As the electrodeionization system continuously operate, it requires
that a portion of the feed must be diverted to the concentrate and
electrode compartments. Here the dissolved ions can be collected and
purged from the deionization system. The ratio of product to reject flow
is application dependent. Recoveries of 85 to 95% are achieved.
